When we left Wickenburg this morning the temperature was 39 degrees which was 3-4 degrees colder than some parts of Iowa. It sure is great to be in the sunshine state! Even though it was cool riding at first, it was a great time riding with a couple extra Tall Dogs. Jan Janasko and Larry Dirkson came to our motel this morning to ride the first 29 miles with us into Surprise, Az. where they live. In that first 29 miles we had a couple other Iowans stop us on the road to say hi. Jerry and Karen Cahail, friends of Bob, are snowbirds from Iowa who are following our blog and decided to find us along our route. It was great to see them and know that they have enjoyed reading about our adventures.
The ride today was 86 miles in very cool weather, but the rain held off. We did 28 miles on the open road then spent the next 58 miles riding across greater Phoenix to get to our hotel in Mesa. Ten of those miles were on the Canal Bike Trail which took us by the Bike Cafe for lunch. It is also a bike store where some of the crew replenished some supplies.
Tonight, Ron’s cousin picked him up to go out to eat and Brian’s sister Lacy, her husband John and their friends Alan and Sandy Clinkenbeard took him out for supper also. That left five of us to try Buffalo Wild Wings. — Bob
